My favorite Northbrae rock park is Mortar Rock. Just up the street from the popular and often noisy Indian Rock, Mortar Rock is quiet and secluded.
The name comes from mortar holes made by the Ohlone and Chochenyo peoples before the arrival of the Europeans in 1769.
The top of the rock was formerly completely surrounded by tree cover, but in recent years a narrow view window was opened to the west.
